Curriculum

Our curriculum draws out the connections between the artworks in Agnes Scott’s collection and all the liberal arts disciplines.

Japanese Prints: ‘Iki’ (粋 / いき)

“A simple black dress (or better yet gray) is iki. A habit is not; nor are sweatpants.”

Japanese Prints: Yūgen’ (幽玄)

“To watch the sun sink behind a flower clad hill. To wander on in a huge forest without thought of return. To stand upon the shore and gaze after a boat that disappears behind distant islands. To contemplate the flight of wild geese seen and lost among the clouds…”

Rocio Rodriguez

“… yes, we are cosmic dust, yet, within this universe, we have a place …”

John McWilliams

“McWilliams’ photos provide an opportunity to analyze the natural landscape on multiple interacting levels: as sites of growth for particular species of flora; of places altered or effected by concrete human activities; and as combinations of elements creating a ‘whole.’”

Käthe Kollwitz

“… just what is significant in them cannot be presented to perception, but must be arrived at by thought.”
